1. I love romance stories with a passion. Give me a good fluffy, grin inducing romance novel and I'll be happy. It can be predictable, it can be cheesy, it can be overly sappy... and chances are I'll still enjoy it because it's romance. It’s what I love.
2. I love football. I'm that crazy, screaming girl watching a football game. I can spout stats off like nobody’s business. I’ve played fantasy football since 2005. My face is glued to the tv on Sunday's, taking in what is the greatest sport (in my opinion). It’s what I love.
So... let's talk about number 3... Sports romance novels. Or more specifically, romance novels with football, football players, football fans... football romance novels. Get in my hands now!!! IT’S WHAT I LOVE!!
All that being said, last night was the football season opener (and my beloved Packers lost, which we shall not discuss…)... But what better way to celebrate my favorite season, than to give you some of my favorite football romance reads?
This book. Gah! This book!!! I adore it so much. Probably my favorite football romances. That Carson is my top FBB (football book boyfriend). All Broke Down, the next book in the series comes out in October and I’m very excited to read about Silas...you find out who Silas is in this book, and I’m not going to lie… Not a fan… but I’m sure I will be.
In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.
Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.
But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.
Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.
Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.
And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.
These were the very first football romances I remember reading. And let’s face it, SEP writes some good romance! There are 7 books in the series and each are worth the read! Here is book #1.
The Windy City isn't quite ready for Phoebe Somerville—the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who has just inherited the Chicago Stars football team. And Phoebe is definitely not ready for the Stars' head coach, former gridiron legend Dan Calebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. Calebow is everything Phoebe abhors. And the sexy new boss is everything Dan despises—a meddling bimbo who doesn't know a pigskin from a pitcher's mound.
So why is Dan drawn to the shameless sexpot like a heat-seeking missile? And why does the coach's good ol' boy charm leave cosmopolitan Phoebe feeling awkward, tongue-tied . . . and ready to fight?
Gah. Big time NFL quarterback meets ‘nerdy’ publishing intern?! GIVE IT TO ME NOW! I devoured this book. This is part of the New York Leopards series. Currently there are three books out. I’ve only read this one, but you better believe the other two are on my kindle just waiting for me!
When post-grad Rachael Hamilton accidentally gate-crashes a pro-athlete party, she ends up face-to-face with Ryan Carter, the NFL's most beloved quarterback.
While most girls would be thrilled to meet the attractive young millionaire, Rachael would rather spend time with books than at sporting events, and she has more important things to worry about than romance. Like her parents pressuring her to leave her unpaid publishing internship for law school.
But when Ryan's rookie teammate attaches himself to Rachael, she ends up cohosting Friday-night dinners for half a dozen football players.
Over pancake brunches, charity galas and Alexander the Great, Rachael realizes all the judgments she'd made about Ryan are wrong. But how can a Midwestern Irish-Catholic jock with commitment problems and an artsy, gun-shy Jewish New Englander ever forge a partnership? Rachael must let down her barriers if she wants real love—even if that opens her up to pain that could send her back into her emotional shell forever.
Okay - so this one doesn’t have a crazy amount of football action. There are games, and Bodie used to be a football player. But...this story. I can’t tell you the amount of times my eyes welled while reading this. And the moral behind the story...yeah, a must read.
Nevaeh Evan’s life is uprooted after her father’s death, when she moves in with her aunt and cousin, Livvie. Her plan to lay low at her new high school isn’t working. Her friend’s jerky boyfriend keeps asking her out, the guy she likes treats her like garbage, and the thought of tumbling again makes her want to hurl.
So when her aunt pushes her into joining the elite X-FACTOR cheer leading squad, Navaeh goes along with it.
But Nev feels she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Not after what happened the night her father died.
Bodie Scott knows about grief all too well. Critically injured in an alcohol related accident the year before, Bodie struggles with the fact that he’ll never play football again, and he’s so far behind in credits he can’t see straight. That is, until he meets Nev. Haunted by their bloody pasts and wary of a shared future, Nev and Bodie turn to one another for comfort and support, and realize they’re not so alone after all. And when the party scene at school threatens the life of a loved one, the two stop at nothing to keep the past from repeating itself.
Okay - here's another one that's kind of slim on the actual football part, aside from Talon being a football player and a scene of playing catch. And at the end you'll be cheering for geeky adorable Wesley (I promised you!!! Wesley is TOP book boyfriend material!!) And now I want to re-read this...
Ever since high school, Kayla has been crazy for gorgeous football player Talon. But before she could muster the courage to tell him, he became a hot item with her beautiful BFF, Reagan. The only person who knows Kayla’s secret is Wesley, Talon’s best bud—and he’s got it bad for Reagan. Now they’re all in college together, hanging out 24/7. For Kayla, seeing the two lovebirds together is absolutely unbearable. So Kayla and Wesley hatch a plot to drive them apart before Talon has a chance to give Reagan the Christmas gift she’s been waiting for.
Soon enough, the once happy couple is fighting. Reagan suddenly can’t get enough of Wesley’s goofy sense of humor, and Talon seems to be paying more attention to Kayla than a guy who’s “only a friend” ever should. But just when everything seems to be falling into place, Kayla and Wesley accidentally spend a night together and discover a hitch in their plan they never considered: that switching partners may not lead to a perfect ending after all.
I mean, I may be a little late at picking a winner... but I finally have one!
