Well… stop tearing my heart out of my chest and stomping on it, while laughing evilly. Not cool, Elizabeth.. Not cool.
Caylie is the author of Choose Us, and I am so proud of her. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading it, read this interview, then go grab it. It's all kinds of awesome!
Now, let's get to know Caylie a little better.
Has a book ever changed your life? Which book was it, and how did it affect you?
I’m going to say Caddie Woodlawn. It was required reading in the 4th grade, but it was a story that I just loved. I didn’t love reading before that. In fact, I kind of hated it. But with Caddie Woodlawn, I just wanted to keep reading it. I wanted to take it home and devour it in one sitting. My imagination ran wild with that story (I mean, I even played ‘Caddie Woodlawn’ at recess with some friends).
Whenever I see it on the shelf at Goodwill, I have to stop myself from scooping it up and purchasing it. I already have one copy… not sure I need twenty more!
It’s the book that made me fall in love with reading.
We’re all a bunch of geeks and nerds here, but what is the geekiest thing about you that has nothing to do with books? Done anything worthy of a Nerd of the Year Award?
I feel like the geekiest thing I’ve done was write that Nsync fan-fic. I mean, really, what can top that? Non book related? Um… I went to a Hanson concert about 10 years after they were huge. And yes, I screamed like I was still in the 7th grade. And it was amazing. Do not judge me.
OMG, I NEED to read that, STAT!
Yeah… never going to happen.
I saw N'Sync at a local record store right as they were going big. I slipped JC my phone number and Joey said he liked my shirt. I fan-girled all over that place!
Shut your face!! That is the best!! Super jealous.
Soooo not judging! *trails off* ...Mmmbop, ba duba dop...*clears throat* Moving on.
(Singing loudly) Ba du bop, ba duba dop.. Ba du bop, ba duba dop… Ba du.. Caylie? YYEEEAAAAHHHHH!!
Imagine all your characters are on survivor. Who will be voted out first? Who would win?
Haha! Nicki would be voted out first. Without a doubt. Or damn, I would hope she would. I couldn’t imagine all the other girls wanting her to be there and be willing to listen to her complain every day. There would be a lot of throat punching if she stayed past day one.
I want to say Riley would kick ass and win… but I feel like the girls would gang up on her after they found out her connection with Travis. And I mean, Travis would be the obvious choice, since he’s a guy and all…. But honestly, I think Taylor would win. Her sweet demeanor would win everyone over.
I think I have to agree. It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for!
You and your biggest fictional (book) crush go on a date. Who is it, and what are you doing?
Book crush? Um…. Can I pick Travis from Choose Us? Because I’m pretty much in love with that boy.
No? You don’t like that answer? Fine.
Evan Matthews, Kiran Kendrick, Camden McQueen, Dean Holder, Josh Bennett, Matt Watkins, Wesley, Lir, Cash Neale (sorry Dove), Kellan Kyle, Travis Maddox…
You are only supposed to choose one.
I answered the best I could to an impossible question.
Okay, fine. Group Date! So what are you doing with them? ;-)
There is only one thing I’d want to do with those boys…
…hang out and have drinks. What were you thinking?!
Exactly that, of course. What else could there be?!?!?
I know what your dirty mind is thinking!! And I mean… I’d be fine with that…
Don't try to pretend. Embrace your inner dirty girl mind and come to the dark side, we have cookies!
Oh! Cookies!! **walks over to the dark side**
How about if you grabbed coffee with five authors, past or present? I used to work as a barista, so I have to know what would you order?
All you Rebel Writers (and honorary Rebel Writer).
Naturally. But besides us?
Oh? Is that not an acceptable answer?!
Well, I think it is… but to appease you.
Colleen Hoover, Kristin Hannah, J.K. Rowling, Kate Morton and Judy Blume. I’m sure I could go on and on…
Great choices! Consider me appeased.
As for a drink. I’m pretty simple. I’d take a caramel latte or a chai latte.
Coming right up!
What book are you currently working on? What is it about?
Current working title (Parting Chances). And it will be released late Fall 2014.
Here is a very rough blurb.
Life for Haley had never been easy. Her mom was sick most of her teenage years. Her brother moved 1,000 miles away when she needed him the most. And her parents are forcing her to follow through with her plans to move out of their house for her senior year of college, even though she felt she was needed at home more now than ever.
At least she was moving in with her best friend, Kyler, just like she had always dreamed of. Surrounding herself with close friends was all she really needed.
What she didn’t need right now?
Eli. The geeky roommate of Kyler’s boyfriend, Noah, from freshman year. Who is anything but geeky now. In fact he's downright hot. And Haley cannot get him out of her head.
After countless nights hanging out together, she knows she's falling for him, but with everything else going on she can't handle any more distractions-- at least that's what she tells herself. And it works too. Until Eli brings home another girl and Haley's plan to deny her feelings goes out the window.
But she doesn't need any distractions right now.
As her life comes crashing down around her, he just might be what she needs.
That sounds awesome! I can't wait to get my hands on it...before everyone else...that's right people, be jealous!
Haha. Good thing you’re not bragging about it or anything…
What is your favorite guilty pleasure read, song and movie?
Read – Anything Nora Roberts. Especially The Bridal Quartet series. I could read that over and over and over again.
Song – You know that mash-up from Pitch Perfect? The girls’ final performance one? Yeah, I turn that UP with I’m listening to it. Or hell, that whole soundtrack!
Movie – The Mighty Ducks (trilogy). I love those movies. And will stop everything if they are on TV. Or I really love Disney movies.. I think I have watched the Tinkerbell movies more times than my daughter has.
Guilty pleasure are supposed to be embarrassing. Pitch Perfect is awesome.
Gah! Fine. I really have no secrets here. I mean… I just sang Mmmbop before! There you go. Guilty pleasure song. You better believe I turn that up whenever I hear it. My hubby just loves me when I do that …
Mine looks at me like I'm crazy then gives up and sings along.
And the Ducks.... who doesn't stop to watch that? I just watched it on VHS like a month ago!
But should a 29 year old still be giddy to watch a children’s movie? I mean…I freaking LOVE Joshua Jackson… but is it okay to still have a crush on little Charlie?!?! I feel like a creeper.
Also… VHS?! Really? Oh… and I have them on DVD – and everyone who knows, laughs at me. Like it isn't acceptable for a grown woman to have The Mighty Ducks trilogy on DVD. Psht!
I'm probably the wrong person to ask considering the VHS and all. But now I really want to go have a Mighty Ducks marathon.
Come to Wisconsin! We’ll have one together!!
Or… a Mighty Ducks marathon online?!
Is there anything else you'd like to know about Caylie? Leave a comment and we'll get back to you as soon as the movies are over.
Can we all just say it one time?
Okay on three. 1...2...3. Ducks Fly Together!
Ducks Fly Together!
Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! GOOOOO DUCKS!!
