I didn’t want to just reiterate the info on my personal page, so I’ve decided to give you guys a little insight into who I am and not just my background.
I’m sure it isn’t surprising to you, but I love words.
I love to listen to them – whether it is correlating every moment of my life to a song or hearing someone read beautiful poetry.
I love to read them. I jumped on the e-book bandwagon as quickly as I could get my paws on a Nook and never looked back. I’ve been either read to, or reading myself, since before I was born. Being sent to my room was a blessing as a child – it meant I got a quiet room with my closest friends!
Words move me in a way that literally nothing else can. I couldn’t tell you what books I started with, but I know that paranormal stories have always been my favorite. Anything laced with magic always drew me in like nothing else, making me wish I had all of the amazing powers I read about. I like to joke that I was reading the genre before anyone ever thought it was cool – I have the original Vampire Diaries, along with all of L.J. Smith’s other books, from elementary school!
I started writing poetry in middle school. Words poured out of me and filled notebook after notebook. I used notes to convey the things I wanted to say but wasn’t sure how. I wrote fabulous (in my own humble opinion) English papers in high school and quickly realized that I couldn’t do a job that didn’t let me use words. I’ve started and abandoned a few blogs, really because of time constraints more than anything else. I wrote marketing pieces for my yoga studio and loved being able to tie my soul into my work. Today, I work in marketing and use words both written and spoken to change perceptions, influence opinions and drive change.
Everything I do somehow comes back to words. I have a dramatic personality that loves big words and lots of sarcasm, but I’m really attuned to what people think and how they feel. As an author, my goal is to give you a book that somehow touches you. That uses words and details to draw you in and make you never want to leave. I can’t say I’m there yet, but Duty Bound is only the first of many novels to come from me. I’m in the editing process now and spend hour after hour fine-tuning each sentence and paragraph.
I’m currently in graduate school, getting a Masters of Communications and Leadership, so you won’t find me as active as the other Rebels on our social sites and on the blog, nor will I publish at the same rate that many of them will, but you can know that every piece you read from me has been crafted with you in mind. That I choose every word deliberately and reread it more times than I probably should have. I never knew what it was like to have someone else living in your head until last July when Amelia’s story started taking shape in my mind. Now, her voice can sometimes be as loud in my ear as my own and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I hope you stay tuned and check back. And keep an eye out for Duty Bound, coming in July!
